Legend Has It
Grandpa’s “Wonder” Pine Tar Soap has been manufactured and sold continuously since 1878. This is Our Story as it has been told to us and passed down through the family generation after generation. Today, you can find a whole line of soaps that have been thoughtfully crafted with the same attention to detail and respect for ingredients as Jess Hoffman in 1878.
The Beaver Soap Company Merges

Grandpa Moves Headquarters
Grandpa moves headquarters to a 6 story factory at 317-321 E. Eighth St. built in 1904 with over 58,000 square feet. The facility had age worn wood floors and tall windows that scanned the front and the back of the building. The one downfall, if anything, was the freight elevator that was needed to move soap from one floor to the other.
One Last Move
Grandpa moves across the Ohio River into Northern Kentucky and sets up headquarters. Talk about a job – we had to sift through old paperwork (some dated back to 1928). We threw out a lot of stuff but also saved some really nostalgic pieces as well. We’ve kept the old safes, vintage glass encased balance scales and, of course, our old signage.
It was a good year to be Grandpa, as Grandpa got a “face lift” with new packaging! His new look was fresh, fun and full of color.
